cook the toor dhal with with 400 ml water, turmeric powder,hing and 1 spoon oil. Wait for 5 whistles.
Meantime chop the shallots, tomatoes and green chillies.
Put a kadai on the stove.
Add oil.
When it is hot add 1 spoon mustard, half spoon urad dhal.
Wait until mustard splutters and urad dhal becomes golden colour.
Now add chopped shallots.
Saute for 2 minutes.Add g chillies and red chilli.
Add tomatoes and saute until oil separates.
Add curry leaves.
Add 1 cup water and cook until onion and tomatoes become soft.
Now add cooked dhal.
Add salt.
Add tamarind paste.
Cook for 3 more minutes and switch off gas.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
